A small traditionally-rooted pack in central Ironmound lands, known as skilled blacksmiths, goldsmiths, and maintainers of Ancestral Flames, with one flame kept in each town and village’s main forge. Each forge’s flame has been kept traditionally burning through generations, allowing their metals to be forged by the very same flames used by their ancestors.
Forge Keepers, a role handed down to young men and women as they come of age, are tasked with keeping the flame burning in shifts. A respected and minor spiritual role to their people, keeping the flame alight may appear to be a menial task to outsiders but to the people of Emberthorn it is an honor and seen as a responsibility to one’s people and a respect to living and past elders. The traditions of how the flame is kept burning can vary in each forge or depending on the elder smith’s needs, but it is always done with respect to both the ancestors of their past and young who are yet to be born. A Forge Keeper failing this duty and allowing a flame to die out is seen by many of their people as the connection to their ancestors being eternally severed; thus treated as a crime to be met with excommunication or execution, with redemption rarely being possible. In old tales, the pack had even gone to war when an outsider extinguished an Ancestral Flame, unclear in the tale if done intentionally or accidentally.
